Empire State Fellows Program:

The Empire State Fellows Program is a full-time leadership training program that will prepare the next generation of talented professionals for careers as New York State policy-makers. The first class of Empire State Fellows will serve from September 2012 to September 2014. Each Empire State Fellow will receive compensation commensurate with experience and not to exceed $72,765 plus a generous benefits package. At the end of the fellowship, a performance review process will identify fellows that will be given the opportunity to continue to serve as leaders in New York State government after completing the program. YouthBridge-NY’s Shared Resources for a Shared Future Committee is seeking proposals from organizations from across NYC that foster leadership among diverse youth in the area(s) of immigration, health and education. National Brain Injury Awareness Month Kick-off:

The Brooklyn Museum will host a special free screening of BACK WALKING FORWARD an inspirational story of traumatic brain injury on a Jewish family, the Michalowski’s, of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn to mark National Brain Injury Awareness Month on Sunday, March 18 at 2.00 pm. SUNY Downstate Medical Center is pleased to announce the launch of the Cancer Services Program of Central Brooklyn. Through this program men and women without insurance can have free cancer screenings, regardless of immigration status. To qualify for services you must meet eligibility criteria, which include: for women, NYS residency, age 40 or older, and no health insurance; and for men, NYS residency, age 50 or older, and no health insurance. The cancer screenings offered are for breast, cervical, and colon cancer. Early detection can save your life! We encourage you to take care of your health and get screened. The We Are New York Community Leadership Project, sponsored by CUNY and the Mayor’s Office of Adult Education, is recruiting community sponsors of conversation groups to help adult immigrants practice English. Know Your Rights Immigration Workshop :

On Saturday March 3rd, St. Raymond Community Outreach will be hosing a workshop, sponsored by Council Members Annabel Palma and James Vacca entitled “Know Your Rights”. The workshop will address immigration and citizenship status for our community residents. This workshop will include a comprehensive presentation on the basics of the citizenship process, adjustment and naturalization. As well as a discussion on Opening Keynote Speaker: Christina Lagdemeo, Deputy Director, White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. LFHC Services for Older Adults will host a series of informational talks on hepatitis and other diseases of the liver featuring Phillip Scarfo of the American Liver Foundation. Program to Help Homeowners at Risk of Foreclosure:

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in conjunction with NeighborWorks® America announced the launch of the Emergency Homeowners’ Loan Program (EHLP) today, to help homeowners who are at risk of foreclosure in 27 states across the country and Puerto Rico.

Congress provided $1 billion dollars to HUD, as part of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, to implement EHLP.
